  1. You need 400 gm of small kathal, chopped.
  2. You need 1/3 cup of chana dal (Bengal Gram lentil), soaked overnight.
  3. It's 2 tbsp. of oil.
  4. Prepare 2 of bay leaves.
  5. You need 2 of dry red chilies.
  6. You need 1 of : cinnamon stick.
  7. It's 2 of green cardamoms.
  8. You need 4 of cloves.
  9. You need 1/2 of mace.
  10. Prepare 1/2 tsp. of peppercorns.
  11. It's to taste of salt.
  12. Prepare 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder.
  13. You need 1 of " ginger, chopped.
  14. Prepare 3-4 of garlic cloves, chopped.
  15. Prepare 1 of onion, chopped.
  16. It's 2-3 of green chilies, chopped.
  17. It's 2-3 tbsp. of coriander leaves, chopped.
  18. You need 2-3 tbsp. of roasted gram flour.
  19. It's 2 tsp. of cashews, coarsely crushed.
  20. Prepare of oil to shallow fry.

Kathal Ke Shami Kebab instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan & temper with bay leaves, red chilies, cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves, peppercorns and mace. Saute for a few seconds..
  2. Add the raw jackfruit, chana dal, ginger, garlic, salt and turmeric powder..
  3. Saute for 2 minutes..
  4. Add 1/2 cup water..
  5. Pressure cook for one whistle. The water needs to be absorbed. If not simmer till dry. Allow it to cool down. Then grind into a coarse paste..
  6. To it add the onions, coriander leaves, green chillies, roasted gram flour.
  7. And cashewnut powder..
  8. Combine everything well and then form into round shaped kebabs. Refrigerate it till frying time..
  9. Heat 1-2 tbsp. oil and shallow fry the shami kebabs in batches till golden on both sides. Drain on a kitchen towel..
  10. Serve as a tea-time snack, as an appetizer with green chutney or as a light meal with salad..
